Kaarmun is an electro artist and producer.
For his Sand Groove project, he decided to release the track Waves as a single, and contacted me to design the cover.

Kaarmun is an electro artist and producer.
For the release of his new album, he contacted Mathieu Cruard, a painter, to create the main element of the cover, the car on fire. Based on this work, I created the cover design and graphic layout for the painting.

Kaarmun and his painting

Kaarmun has a very special attachment to French Polynesia, where he lived for several years. Campfire is an album he began making 3 years ago on the archipelago. While his previous album was tinged with this paradisiacal universe, this latest album is the story of his return to the metropolis, a return to greyness and routine, a nostalgia for that waking dream.

This album takes us through three major periods since his return. This is evidenced by reunions, multiple featurings and collaborations. Campfire takes its name literally from “campfire”, which is a summer rendezvous, a tradition in which we used to meet up on a beach along the Loire, on a summer’s evening, where we would allow ourselves 1 night to lose ourselves in the embers of a fire we had carefully prepared. These precious moments inspired him for this project, but also the encounters, the goodbyes, the farewells, over the last few years.

This album is a story of many years, but it’s also the theme of a campfire evening, to which you’re invited.

Kaarmun and I worked together on the cover, as he wanted to keep the visuals very colorful and add a number of specific elements to illustrate the story behind the project.

I set out with the constraint of integrating this very strong element, the painting, and making it as powerful as it already is by adding various other elements, without detracting from its meaning.
We decided to work with archive photos. I suggested to Kaarmun that we work on a frame that would allow us to focus on the main subject (the painting), while at the same time placing a very particular emphasis on fire and the diversity of the photo compositions.

We gave this cover an overwhelming warmth, a feeling of poch fais main, a journey through our appointments that inspired this album.

A video was produced to announce the release of the album.
This cover looks like a painting with his frame, I decided to zoom to break with the static side of this image and give it life.
